Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AO, Administrator of the Northern Territory has officially launched Carpentaria Disability Services’ employment and training program.

Carpentaria Disability Services have developed an employment and training pilot program to meet an identified gap in services in the disability sector. Working in partnership with Karen Sheldon Training, the program offers access to certified training in a supportive environment, using adapted models of learning.

The program aims to provide opportunities for individualised accredited training within the day to day operations of a commercial Café and simultaneously offers a work experience component through on-site and in-situ training. Support from trainers, Café staff and Carpentaria support staff ensures that participants are appropriately supported throughout their learning journey.

“We are really pleased to work in partnership with Karen Sheldon Training to bring our employment and training program to life. Working innovatively and collaboratively, we have built a program that meets a real gap in the disability sector, as well as meeting NDIS and other funding requirements.

“We are starting to see very tangible outcomes from this program and I am thrilled to see trainees succeed during their time at The Café at Harry’s Place,” sad Annie Rily, Carpentaria Chief Executive Officer.

The program currently hosts five trainees, including an apprentice chef, with 10 trainees anticipated to complete accreditation during the 12 month pilot period.
