Carpentaria Speech Pathologists look for opportunities to support speech, language and communication skills through a range of daily activities.

Speech therapy sessions work to provide increased opportunities for communication and incorporate a variety of language functions (including commenting, making requests and telling stories). One Carpentaria participant and the speech pathologist have been using jewellery making sessions to work on planning, talking to different people, word finding skills (expressing the words we want to say) and developing skills in procedural narrative (explaining to someone how to do something e.g. how to make a clay bracelet).

Sessions use objects, photographs, drawings, written words and modelling to support these skills and focus on working as a team, sharing thoughts and ideas and having fun!
