Carpentaria will host a Silent Morning Tea on Friday 27 October, as part of International Augmentative and Assistive Communication (AAC) Awareness Month.

Carpentaria CEO Annie Rily sees the event as playing an important role in raising awareness about the way we communicate. “The morning tea will highlight different ways of communicating effectively and some of the challenges faced by people with communication difficulties. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain first hand experience of AAC tools and techniques when they request their morning tea selection which I am sure will be a great learning opportunity as well as a lot of fun. We will also have tips and ideas to create communication-friendly workplaces.

“Communication is a fundamental human right, and we work from the belief that everyone is entitled to communicate with whoever they want, wherever they want and whenever they want. Carpentaria therapists work with a number of people who utilise alternate communication devices and tools and to see the happiness on their faces when they see that they are understood is priceless,” she said.
