The Smart Talkers group therapy program focuses on adolescents who use or might like to use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools such as speech generative devices or communication boards.

A recent group session culminated in participants using their device to order morning tea at The Cafe at Harry’s Place NT, providing an excellent opportunity to practice new communication skills. Increasing social interaction between peers and following a group routine were additional aims of the sessions.

Talking Mats were also used to support students to express their preferences around the topic of ‘foods’. This proved to be a highlight of the sessions, with all participants clearly expressing their likes and dislikes.

Carpentaria offers group therapy sessions throughout the year. Contact us to learn more.
